(Rezko)Obama Attended Saddam Accomplice's Private Reception

Just In.
Obama bomb dropped
http://blogs.suntimes.com/rezko/2008/04/ obama_bomb_dropped.html

When Tony Rezko held a reception at his home for Iraqi-born billionaire Nadhmi Auchi on April 3, 2004, White House hopeful Barack Obama and his wife were also there, Stuart Levine testified just now at Rezko's trial.

Auchi is the man who provided Rezko a $3.5 million loan that Rezko did not disclose to the court -- resulting in his January arrest.

"Mr. and Mrs. Obama were there, were they not?" Rezko lawyer Joseph Duffy asked.
"Yes, sir," Levine said.
Obama and his aides have said Obama has no recollection of ever meeting Auchi.

Looks like another lie got caught.

Who is Nadmi Auchi?
UK's newspaper Guardian had a profile in 2003, read on:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2003/nov /16/iraq.politicalcolumnists

He was charged in the 1950s with being an accomplice of Saddam Hussein, when the future tyrant was acquiring his taste for blood. He was investigated in the 1980s for his part in alleged bribes to the fabulously corrupt leaders of post-war Italy. In the 1990s, the Belgium Ambassador to Luxembourg claimed that Auchi's bank held money Saddam and Colonel Gadaffi had stolen from their luckless peoples. In 2002, officers from the Serious Fraud Squad raided the offices of one of Auchi's drug companies as part of an investigation of what is alleged to be the biggest swindle ever of the NHS. With allegations, albeit unproven, like these hanging over him, wouldn't you think that British MPs would have the sense to stay away?

and more...
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/article s/2008/03/who_is_nadhmi_auchi_and_whats. html

A great deal of Mr. Auchi's money was made doing business with the regime of Saddam Hussein, much of it under the table. In 1987, Mr. Auchi helped French and Italian firms win a huge oil pipeline contract in Iraq, chiefly by paying off Iraqi officials, according to testimony given by an Italian banker to prosecutors in Milan. In 2003, he was convicted for his role in what was then the largest scandal in French history, involving payoffs from executives of the oil company now known as Total to political figures in Spain, Germany and Africa.

Obama's exotic life style, indeed. What will Barak do to again dismiss such connection as baseless? Watch on.

Stop the presses!

Hillary said she had no recollection of meeting Rezko - What did you say then?

What I see so far does not (none / 0)

contradict Obama's stamement.  He does not recall meeting him.

They were at the same event.  So.

I'm sure Obama has met many people.  You need more than this.

I've never heard of him myself.  Some James Bond.

I have been to many parties where I did not meet all the invited guests.  Guess that never happens in your world.

Re: (Rezko)Obama Attended Saddam Accomplice's Priv (2.00 / 1)

You're hoping for the destruction of a Democratic Political candidate.  As much as I want Obama to win, I don't want Clinton to be destroyed by scandal.  Stay Classy, Grendel.

Re: (Rezko)Obama Attended Saddam Accomplice's Priv (2.00 / 2)

If you don't want either candidate destroyed by 'scandal', perhaps you can work to convince your candidates campaign to stop trying to destroy Hillary and in turn Bill and all the good things they have done for Democrats over the past years.

Hell's bells, even the GOP didn't have to crucify Eisenhower's record in order to make Reagan their 'saint'. We can have two great ones, you know?

Re: (Rezko)Obama Attended Saddam Accomplice's Priv (none / 0)

I don't encourage that kind of behaviour, and I have no control over what the campaign does.  Each side is as dirty as the other, that's what campaigning is, sometimes.  But to actively call for the downfall of a particular candidate, to openly call for his destruction, as the diarist is doing, is poor form.  S/he is not looking ot build anthing up, only tear it down.

Re: (2.00 / 5)

I cannot believe that this would not worry Obama supporters. Do you really not care if he loses the GE? Do you really not care if the lose is so bad that it ruins his political career? Is winning the nomination and beating Hillary really worth all that?

There is more here to consider than just the nom. Obama is becoming poison for the GE and most dems I know want to WIN. We can't change anything if we don't WIN.
This is bad. it cannot be blown off, it happened in court under oath. The repubs WILL USE IT.

I'm sure Obama is touched by (2.00 / 1)

your concern for his political career.

Where should he send the "thank you" card?

Oh my

Now we examine everyone who Hill has ever attended a function with?

Or should we limit it to corrupt dictators and criminals to whom Bill sold influence and pardons, just for the sake of brevity?

Re: (none / 0)

You live in a world where you fear everything the GOP does and OH MY GOD WHAT IF THEY SAY WE DONT LIKE BABIES!!!

I live in a world where we stopped caring about non stories and dismissed them as such and tried to, you know, do something good for the country instead of cowing to what the GOP might do.

You should try it, it's liberating.

and? (2.00 / 2)

Any evidence that Obama knew who or what he was when he went to this party? Is there any evidence of any political dealings between Obama and Auchi? Like say with Bill Clinton and Peter Giustra?

I know you guys are desperate and depressed, but if guilt by association, now morphing into guilt by degrees of separation, is all you have, you have nothing.

Re: and? (2.00 / 1)

Is there any clear evidence that Obama didn't have any poltical dealings with Auchi? This is politics...he will have to prove to the repubs that he didn't.

did the USA have a SECDEF who (2.00 / 3)

Who--besides HRC partisans--is supposed to be outraged by this story?

So I was wondering how this shoe fit: (2.00 / 5)

Hillary Clinton not only attended cocktail parties hosted by federally-indicted Norman Hsu, the cocktail party was in her honor.

Wonder how that koolaide tastes.

Re: (Rezko)Obama Attended Saddam Accomplice's Priv (2.00 / 4)

This was BEFORE the Rezko/Obama land deal!!!

During which time Rezko was claiming to be bankrupt I hear.

If Auchi money was involved in the land deal and Obama met Auchi BEFORE that deal....

This doesn't look good at all team Obama.

by DTaylor on Mon Apr 14, 2008 at 05:43:38 PM EST

What does Auchi say? (2.00 / 1)

Suntimes 4/14

Auchi's attorney, Alasdair Pepper, has said his client doesn't remember meeting Obama.

Re: (Rezko)Obama (2.00 / 1)

What a bunch of crap.
The US government sold arms to Saddam Hussein, including weapons of mass destruction (that were later used by Saddam on the Kurds).
And you're trying to make a big deal out of Obama meeting the guy at some cocktail party?

Re: (Rezko)Obama Attended Saddam (none / 0)

The Clintons attend a reception with Rezko and take a picture with him.  Also, Bill Clinton accepts an award from the president of Colombia who in the last year has killed over 250 civilians who were innocent.  Also, Bill Clinton has taken $800,000 from this president who has killed 250 innocent colombians in just the last year.  Colombia has one of the worse human rights records in South America.
